Today’s warmup, Deadman. I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for the character but I really didn’t like his story in DC Universe Presents or any of the initial issues of JL Dark.
Had a quick crack at Jamie McKelvie’s Ms. Marvel redesign for today’s warm-up
A DC Enchantress sketch for @happysorceress who was lamenting the lack of sketches of this character yesterday
Scan of a recent warmup sketch suggested by @incogvito on twitter.
I think I lost a bit of the likeness in the inking, the angle of his face points his chin a little but I think I’ve accented that too much and it’s pushing the likeness towards Dustin Hoffman.
Scrubbed the dodge brush over the spot blacks to add some texture in Photoshop and painted out some of the feathering that wasn’t working
Blacksad sketch suggested by a friend on twitter.
Now I thought that I’d first heard about Blacksad from the Comic Geek Speak podcast, Book of the Month episode which was in September 2010. But I distinctly remember reading the Dark Horse collected edition of the book on the plane, on my way to vacation in Canada in July of the same year. So I’m not sure where I first heard about the book, but I’m incredibly glad I picked it up.
It’s an absolutely, stunningly, beautiful book that belongs in the library of every comics fan. Cannot recommend the book enough, but if my recommendation still doesn’t sway you, check out what the CGS guys had to say on the matter here
